Aside from debate tournaments and quiz bowl competitions, it isn't often that the Ivy League thoroughly and consistently dominates its opponents.
But this year members of the Patriot League found out the hard way that the Ancient Eight can excel in athletics also, as they lost the season football series 14-4.
In the last week of non-conference play, the Ivies finished 3-1 against their inter-conference rivals on Saturday, closing out yet another Patriot League-heavy schedule.
One of these wins came at the hands of Harvard, who handed Lafayette its fourth Ivy loss of the season and completed a perfect 3-0 clip against the Patriot League.
Despite being the Ivy League's whipping boy so far this year, the Patriot League has had the number of one Ivy team: Dartmouth. The Big Green accounts for half of the Ivy League's losses as it dropped two to fellow non-scholarship football schools Colgate and Holy Cross.
Havoc in Hanover
Apparently, Dartmouth is well aware of this futility, as it seemed to be doing its best impression of the University of Miami football team on Saturday during its overtime loss to Holy Cross.
Unfortunately for the Big Green, it waited until after the closing whistle to do it.
During post-game handshakes, a scuffle between opposing players broke out after members of the Big Green thought some of the Crusaders were taunting their hosts by dancing on the large 'D' insignia at midfield.
The fights were broken up by coaches from both sides with help from campus and local authorities after nearly 10 minutes. School officials are still investigating the incident, though no suspensions have been handed out as of yet.
Dawson on the mark
While the Harvard band leaped into the Guinness Book of World Records with its construction of a 10 foot-long baton used in the halftime show, Crimson running back Clifton Dawson rushed his way into immortality with a 10-yard touchdown scamper in the third quarter.
It was Dawson's 52nd career rushing score, tying him with Brown's Nick Hartigan - who set the record last year - for the Ivy League career mark.
Dawson may stand to match and break yet another record this year: he is within 322 yards of Cornell's Ed Marinaro for the Ivy League mark for career rushing yards.
Put it on the board
For the first time this season, half of the Ivy League has received votes for the top 25.
Not only have No. 15 Harvard and No. 22 Princeton - up two spots from last week - maintained their top-25 rankings, but Penn and Yale fall under the "Others receiving votes" category.
The Elis are newcomers to the list, garnering attention for defeating Lehigh in overtime this week.
