Platt Student Performing Arts House director Miriam White gives a tour of the new space, located beneath Stouffer College House.

A space devoted to Penn's performing arts groups is finally open for business.

Construction is finished on the Platt Student Performing Arts House - located beneath Stouffer College House - and the space is ready for the singers, actors and dancers who plan to rehearse there this fall.

The center has a small cabaret stage, rehearsal rooms and office space.

Performers in Penn Life Sketches -skits during New Student Orientation that teach freshmen about safety and well-being on campus -have been rehearsing almost six hours a day in the space for the past week, and they say it has surpassed their expectations.

"Everything's perfect," said College junior Jide Iruka. "The ambiance is great."

No groups have scheduled performances there for this fall, according to College junior Shayne Wagman, who helps arrange performance details for Performing Arts Council groups. Many, however, are planning to use the space for rehearsals, she added.
