Crime log: June 2, 2005

Burglary May 28 -- A man from the Roxbough section of the city confessed to taking over $175,000 worth of pharmaceuticals from Presbyterian Hospital, located at 39th and Market streets. The suspect is being held by Montgomery County authorities while Penn detectives await an approval of the man's arrest warrant. May 25 -- Penn Police arrested Dan Borton --ÿa 41-year-old Upper Darby resident -- for breaking into a car on the 4100 block of Delancey Street. Officials now allege that Borton also burglarized a house on the 4100 block of Spruce Street moments earlier. He is being charged with burglary, theft and other crimes. May 25 -- An unidentified man entered the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity house at 3539 Locust Walk through an open front window. After being confronted by a Penn student, the man ran off with a Sony Playstation valued at $150. Robbery May 28 -- Four men left the Philly Diner on the 3900 block of Walnut Street in the early morning without paying their $46.60 bill. When confronted by the manager outside, one of the men showed a blue steel semiautomatic handgun. They drove west on Walnut Street in a dark-colored 1992 Pontiac or Oldsmobile with Pennsylvania tags. May 25 -- A male graduate student in his mid-30s was allegedly approached by 45-year-old Southwest Philadelphia resident Samuel Rouse outside Logan Hall at 249 S. 36th St. at about 3:30 p.m. Rouse allegedly displayed a knife and demanded the student's bike but did not take it. Rouse was later stopped by Penn Police because he fit the description of the criminal. The victim then positively identified him. Theft May 30 -- A 21-year-old female student reported that her silver Haro Escape 24-speed mountain bike was stolen from its secured location on the west side of Harrison College House at 3910 Irving St. between 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Monday. May 26 -- An employee of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania reported that a laptop -- valued at $825 -- was stolen from a locked office area between 4 p.m. last Wednesday and 8:45 a.m. last Thursday. All information was obtained from the University Police logbook. -- Marissa Montenegro
