The Penn softball team ended the season in style, winning its last game, 5-4, against Yale on Monday.

The win came in Game 2 of a rescheduled doubleheader against the Elis, which the Quakers split after a loss in Game 1, 8-6.

The squad did not fare so well in its first doubleheader of the weekend, as they were swept at Brown, 5-4 and 4-2, on Sunday.

Although the Quakers (14-25, 4-10 Ivy) managed 17 hits and committed no errors in the field in the doubleheader, Brown (12-16-1, 4-8) remained dominant throughout.

The Quakers' losing streak was extended to eight when they lost Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader against Yale.

Fate finally turned in the Quakers' favor in Game 2, as the squad snapped its eight-game losing streak and ended the season with a win.

Although still not a .500 team, the Penn softball squad ends this season with a record that is considerably better than last season's, especially with regards to intra-conference play. The Quakers won four more games and three more Ivy League games than least season.

And with the season at its end, the Quakers find themselves in a position they are a bit unaccustomed to -- somewhere other than the Ivy League cellar. Overall, the team finished in seventh place, as a dominant Princeton team clinched first place honors.

Despite recording another losing season, Penn coach Leslie Moore is happy with the team's overall performance this year, and was particularly pleased with the efforts of the team's freshmen.

"We proved that we are a very good hitting team," Moore said. "We have a lot of youth on the team, and they played very well this year."

Moore is optimistic about next season and expects the program to continue to improve considerably.

"I'm very confident about the youth that we have, and now they have another year of experience," Moore said. "With that and the recruiting class coming in, I have no doubt that we'll be even stronger for next year."
