Harnwell prepares for renewed renovations

Students returning to Harnwell College House after spring break were welcomed back with scaffolding and caution tape.

Renovations have officially begun again on the high rise and are scheduled to be finished before the start of the fall semester.

Currently, scaffolding is being set up in order to install new windows and is expected to be in place by the end of April.

Fences have been set up near the building where the construction is occurring for safety reasons.

The replacement of the windows in is expected to take five to seven weeks, depending on the weather over the summer.

So far, the front desk of Harnwell has not received any complaints from residents about noise or other disturbances.

"It's not bothering us," College sophomore Becky Hughes said of herself and her sixth-floor roommates. "It hasn't been that loud yet."

The construction crew will be working from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Next Monday and Tuesday, the front entrance of Harnwell will be closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m so that workers can set up scaffolding in that area.

Residents and others wishing to enter Harnwell during these hours will have to use the entrance at the rear of the building, which faces Spruce Street. Locust Walk will still be accessible in front of the building.

In addition to the new windows, the building's facade will be retouched and the lobby will be revamped and several new rooms created.

Harnwell is the last of the three high rise dormitories to be renovated in an $80 million undertaking.
