The individual who turned himself in to police in connection with Friday night's shootout on 40th Street has become the complainant of the case.
The shooting -- which occurred around midnight Friday behind the Bridge: Cinema De Lux -- is being investigated by the Philadelphia Police Southwest Detectives unit.
No injuries occurred during the shooting, and it is still unclear exactly how many bullets were fired. Witnesses reported hearing between five and 12 shots over a short period.
Police have already made two arrests, one of which is directly linked to the shooting, Penn Police detectives said.
The complainant -- a 24-year-old male who is unaffiliated with the University -- walked into the Southwest Detectives station around 3 a.m. Saturday and reported that he was at the Bridge when he became involved in an argument with three other males.
The complainant reported that the argument escalated to the point at which the three males began to punch and kick him, prompting him to flee the theater.
According to police, the three other men followed the complainant outside and began to shoot at him. The complainant shot three to four bullets in response before the scene broke up.
Because the complainant had a permit for his nine-millimeter Beretta semi-automatic and reportedly only fired when his life was endangered, he does not currently face charges.
Police arrested Curtis Welton -- a 22-year-old male unaffiliated with the University -- at around 12:15 a.m. at the intersection of 41st and Chancellor streets for shooting at the complainant.
Welton is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, violation of the uniform firearms act, recklessly endangering another person and terroristic threats.
Bail for Welton is set at $50,000. He will have a preliminary hearing at the Criminal Justice Center -- located at Broad and Filbert streets -- at 9 a.m. on March 1.
At the time of the arrest, Welton was in possession of a gun.
Donta Keys -- a 20-year-old male unaffiliated with the University -- was also arrested Saturday morning around 12:15 a.m. near 41st and Walnut streets.
Police do not know whether Keys was involved in the shooting in any way.
Police found Keys running out of the the Bridge with a nine-millimeter semi-automatic pistol that was loaded with nine bullets. He was charged with violating gun laws.
Keys' preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Feb. 24 at 5500 Pine St. His bail is set at $1,000.
Further investigations of the crime scene determined that at least one of the bullets did enter the building. Detectives found a round on the floor of the theater's bar.
