A two-week Wharton study tour known as the India Global Immersion Program traveled to one of the nations affected by the tsunami on Dec. 24, one day before the tragedy occurred, but was fortunate enough to avoid the incident because of its location in India.
GIP Coordinator Parker Snowe said he has not yet had a chance to talk with the students and faculty in India. However, Snowe said that the students "were nowhere near the disaster."
The tsunami hit on the southeast coast of India, while the GIP visited the west coast.
The students were in Mumbai, which Snowe said was "comparable to being in San Francisco when a hurricane hits in Florida."
"We were lucky on that one," he added.
The trip was part of a half-credit elective course at the Wharton Graduate Division and served as a follow-up to a series of lectures on business in India.
