Penn helps students find jobs

Employers connect using On-Campus Recruiting Service

For Penn seniors on the lookout for a good job upon graduation, the University provides a free service to help them connect with employers.

The On-Campus Recruiting Service -- an arm of Career Services -- is working to bring as many potential recruiters to Penn as possible.

"OCRS is our service that brings employers to campus to interview Penn students that are looking for either permanent or summer positions," said Patricia Rose, director of Career Services.

In addition to bringing recruiters to campus, OCRS sponsors over 400 career workshops every year and offers one-on-one counseling for students.

OCRS has 14 counselors -- three for students in the College, two for Engineering, two for Wharton and one for Nursing. OCRS also offers advising for graduate students.

Advisers are available to talk with students about their specific career goals.

"If you are a freshman, your questions are very different than if you are a second-semester senior," Rose said.

Rose encourages students interested in using OCRS to investigate its Web site. From there, they can look at over 10,000 career listings as well as schedules of workshops and recruiting sessions. Guides to interviewing, creating a resume and job searching strategies are also available online.

Students can obtain a walk-in request form on the OCRS Web site -- vpul.upenn.edu/careerservices/recruiting/recruiting.html. -- and schedule an appointment with a counselor. The actual office is located in Suite 20 of the McNeil Building.
