Moriarty's more than just big wings

After eating at Moriarty's, you'll never look at your average chicken wing the same way again.

These wings are huge.

They dwarf the competition not only in taste -- having been named Philly's best wings by almost every publication in the city -- but also in size.

It might take you an entire night just to finish a dozen wings.

And at Moriarty's, that's not such a bad thing.

To get the most out of this charming Irish pub, guests need to stay for a while, whether you're stopping by for drinks after a show at the Forrest Theatre, which is next door, or if you're looking for a place to spend a Saturday night with some of your friends.

The menu features a unique blend of foods that run the gamut from classic Irish dishes to Mexican food.

The burgers ($7.95) are excellent and abundant, with 10 different combinations of toppings and sauces served on a fresh kaiser roll.

The Emma Kilkenny strip steak ($16.95), doused with a tangy Jack Daniels sauce and topped with spicy chopped onions, is a unique dish that inundates the palate with flavor.

Even a simple bowl of pasta, such as the tortellini rosa ($10.95), cheese tortellini served in a tomato and white wine sauce, is delicious.

But no matter what entree you eat, make sure you get the wings ($7.25). They truly live up to all of their hype -- full of flavor and meat.

But inside Moriarty's walls, adorned with playbills from past shows at the local theaters, also sits one of the best bars in the city.

Its first floor alone boasts 28 taps, each with a different draft.

Featured at the front of the bar is a host of local brews, including Yards, Flying Fish and, of course, Yuengling.

This makes it easy for out-of-towners to drop in and sample some of the local beers.

A favorite is the victory hop devil, a bold drink full of flavor.

But the bar also has beers from all over the world, such as Germany's Paulaner.

You can tell that Moriarty's employees truly love the place they work. They renovated the second-floor dining room and bar by themselves, installing two new fireplaces on their own.

This second floor of seating, which features an additional eight drafts, is mostly used after shows, when theatergoers spill in.

On Saturdays, the area is also used for karaoke.

The third floor, which boasts an additional six drafts and the same brass and dark wood decor of the rest of the establishment, is used for private parties.

So whether it's your fraternity party, a night of drinks with your friends or a post-theater bite to eat, Moriarty's is a place for good wings, good beer and good times.
