First-place W. Hoops heads to N.J.

The Penn men's basketball team may not have a chance to ruin Princeton's dreams of an Ivy League title in their upcoming game. But for the Penn women's squad, a win at Jadwin Gym tonight will be necessary to maintain its slim lead in the standings.

The Quakers (15-9, 9-2 Ivy) beat the Tigers (6-18, 3-8) at the Palestra, 65-54, earlier this season. Although the Orange and Black currently sit in second-to-last place in the Ivy League standings, the thought of ruining the Quakers' season is enough to make this their biggest game of the year.

Ditto Penn. With a win, the Red and Blue could wrap up the league championship at home Friday against Dartmouth (15-9, 8-3). A loss would mean a tie in the loss column with the Big Green.

The Quakers blew an opportunity to go up two games in the standings when they lost at Columbia on Saturday. But with destiny still in its hands, the team remains confident that it will advance to the NCAA Tournament.

"Doesn't mean anything," junior guard Amanda Kammes said after the Columbia loss. "We're in the exact same position we were before [the game]. Unfortunately, if we won, the Princeton game Tuesday would be [for the championship]. It's OK, we like to make it hard on ourselves."
