Mosher

Former Vice Provost and Director of Libraries Paul Mosher -- who allegedly stashed thousands of images of child pornography on his computer -- will not have his day in court until at least the end of the month, according to the Philadelphia District Attorney's office.

Originally scheduled for April 30, the pretrial hearing was first delayed until June 26. Scheduled to take place in the Criminal Justice Center, the hearing was then moved back to July 31.

"It was continued at defense request," Philadelphia District Attorney's spokeswoman Kathy Abookire said.

Mosher has been charged with possession of child pornography, illegal use of a computer and possession of an instrument of crime, his computer. A conviction could leave Mosher in prison for three to seven years.

Under investigation since August by the Special Victims Unit of the Philadelphia Police, Mosher was brought into the public eye when Philadelphia Police confiscated his office computer in Van Pelt Library on April 11.

Between files on his office and home computers, Mosher allegedly possessed more than 2,000 images of child pornography, paid for with several credit cards.

The investigation -- which began when computer repair technicians noticed the files on Mosher's computer and tipped off police -- resulted in Mosher's resignation on April 17, two days after he was placed on administrative leave.

On April 21, Mosher turned himself in to the Philadelphia Police and was was transferred to the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility, at 7901 State Rd., according to police. Bail was set at $15,000.

Mosher's attorney, Paul Messing, declined to comment yesterday.
