Marine Corps Major General Clifford L. Stanley has been appointed Penn's executive vice president, University President Judith Rodin announced today.
Stanley, currently the Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Marine Corps Combat Development Command in Quantico, Va., is tentatively scheduled to assume his role as chief operating officer of the University on October 15. He will replace John Fry, who officially stepped down on July 1 to become president of Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA.
Rodin described Stanley as "an implementer" and a "doer" with "a passion for mentoring and working with people."
Stanley has spent more than 30 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and in his current position oversees training and education and concept development. He also served as the Marine Corps principal representative to the Joint Requirements Board in support of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In 2002, he was recognized by the Marine Corps with the NAACP Roy Wilkins Renowned Service Award.
"What I see here I'm very excited about," Stanley said of the EVP position. "It was a perfect fit."
