Penn freshman Karen Habrukowich, a member of the Penn women's basketball team, was announced as the Big 5 Rookie of the Year yesterday at the annual awards banquet.

The Big 5 awards are selected by the coaches.

During this season, the guard averaged 11 points per game, which was second on the team.

She shot 33 percent from beyond the arc in 31.9 minutes per game for the Quakers.

The Newtown, Pa., native registered a career-high 20 points agianst Siena, and scored in double figures 16 different times.

In the Big 5 this year, the graduate of Council Rock High School scored 14 points against La Salle and 10 points against Villanova -- Penn's only Big 5 win of the season.

The Quakers went 1-3 in the City Series this year, and were 12-15 overall.

The Red and Blue finished tied for second with Cornell in the Ivy League with a 9-5 record.
