The Office of Student Conduct is conducting an investigation into a reported incident that occurred Tuesday night involving the Sigma Delta Tau sorority.
The incident appears to have involved alcohol, according to OSC Director Michele Goldfarb.
The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs reported the incident to the OSC yesterday.
According to Goldfarb, there is not yet evidence as to whether the situation occurred during a pledging activity.
Officials at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania confirmed yesterday that three Penn students were treated in the emergency room early yesterday morning but were not admitted for an overnight stay. HUP staff members declined to release any details about the medical condition of the students or what they were treated for. It is not clear whether or not this was related to the reported SDT incident now under investigation.
Goldfarb said that the OSC has not yet made specific plans to meet with members of the sorority.
"There was no pledge event [Tuesday] night," according to former SDT president Lindsay Baker.
But the College junior added that there "are some questions that need to be answered."
Panhellenic Council President Alison Ng would not comment on the situation last night, but confirmed that OSC will be investigating the reported incident.
SDT President Suzie Cohen could not be reached for comment last night.
The two-week formal recruitment process for the seven sororities on campus began during the first week of classes last month and ended with the signing of bids, which took place Jan. 20.
Approximately 335 bids were issued to women this year, a number that is consistent with the total from last year.
The OSC is also conducting a preliminary investigation into a reported alcohol-related rush infraction at the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity. Although Alpha Chi Rho President Jason Belinkie said last week that he had not been made aware of any investigation, OFSA reported the violation before the formal end of fraternity rush.
