Ira Bowman, a 1996 Penn graduate, is back to play basketball in Philadelphia for a third time.

Bowman, who led the Quakers in scoring during the 1995-96 season, made the Philadelphia 76ers' final cut yesterday and is on their 15-man opening-day roster.

After being cut by the Utah Jazz in training camp, Bowman appeared in three games with the Atlanta Hawks last season, totaling six assists and two rebounds. He previously played with the Sixers in 1999-2000, scoring five points in 11 games.

The 6-foot-5 guard also saw action in six Indiana Pacers preseason games before being cut prior to the start of the 1996-97 season.

Bowman has also played in the CBA, USBL and Australia.

As has been the case throughout his brief NBA career, Bowman will likely only see limited minutes. Philadelphia's roster includes seven guards and swingman Matt Harpring.

The Sixers, who lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals, open their season in Minnesota against the Timberwolves tonight.
