CAMPUS CRIME REPORT: Thursday, July 13, 2000

Theft

* July 12 -- A salesperson at Douglas Perfumerie, located at 3603 Walnut Street, reported that an unidentified male took seven leopard-print handbags at 11 a.m. that same day. She said that the purses were together valued at $35.

* July 12--A female University student reported that her backpack was stolen at 3:10 p.m. from the David Rittenhouse Laboratories. She said that her bag contained books, keys and a wallet with $90.

* July 12--A male faculty member reported that his $4,000 laptop was stolen. He said he left the computer unattended for 20 minutes, and returned to find it gone.

* July 11 -- Security officers observed Russell Morgan, unaffiliated with the University, at the Penn bookstore allegedly place two hats, a Sony microrecorder, and an employee wallet in his backpack at 5:45 p.m. that same day. The items were valued at $73.91.

* July 11 -- A male unaffiliated with the University reported that his 1990 Honda was broken into while parked on the 4200 block of Osage Avenue between 3 and 9 a.m. that day. Two Pioneer speakers valued at $120 were taken.

* July 11 -- Rachel Levine, a female unaffiliated with the University, was arrested for allegedly taking two pairs of earrings, of unknown value, from Urban Outfitters that same day.

* July 5 -- Police arrested Michael Jones after he allegedly stole $88.68 of beauty products from the CVS store located at 3915 Walnut Street. The alleged theft occured at 8:56 p.m.

Purse Snatching

* July 10 -- It was reported by a female HUP employee that her purse was stolen at 6:15 p.m. that same day. While some of the items in her purse were recovered behind Penn Tower Hotel, she also claimed $90 missing.
