10 Penn athletes named to academic All-Ivy team Penn women's basketball superstar and two-time Ivy Player of the Year Diana Caramanico was selected as a result of her achievements in Wharton classrooms, as was senior Sociology major and fellow basketball standout Mandy West. Junior swimming captain Cathy Holland, who led her team to a .500 record this past season, earned a spot, and senior squash captain Katie Patrick was selected after playing a key role in the squad's first-ever national championship. Senior Psychology and English major and gymnastics standout Kirby Thorpe rounded out the list of female honorees from Penn. The Penn wrestling team put two of its most successful performers onto the all-academic squad. Wharton junior and 197-pounder Mike Fickell was honored along with 174-pound All-American and SEAS junior Rick Springman. Fencing mainstay David Cohen, a Wharton and Engineering junior, earned a spot on the team that also included sophomore swimmer Kenneth Goh and senior track and field standout Matt Pagliasotti. -- Will Ulrich
