The Daily Pennsylvanian

News Brief: Wednesday, April 12, 2000

N.Y. Mets manager to speak today Valentine is in town this week with his team, who made the National League playoffs last season as the wild-card team, for their series against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Wharton Wide World of Sports club, which is bringing Valentine to campus, explores the business side of the professional sports world. "Bobby Valentine is one of the larger names in the sporting industry," club president and Wharton freshman Jared Prushansky said. "We want his opinion to see where he sees baseball going from the business standpoint," he added. Prushansky explained that the Wharton group is a social club, where sports fans can get together to chat about sports -- something members hope will be facilitated by Valentine's visit. Most baseball fans remember at least some of Valentine's antics, including the time last year when he returned to the the dugout after being ejected, wearing a fake mustache and sunglasses. -- Dave Zeitlin
