Yale's Rodin tapped to be the first female Ivy chief Rodin, 49, will become the University's seventh president and 22nd executive if the Board of Trustees approves the nomination -- as it seems likely they will -- at its full meeting on campus December 16th. Rodin would start next July, when Interim President Claire Fagin's term ends. · December 6, 1993 marked a homecoming of sorts for Judith Seitz Rodin, a Penn alumna and a renowned psychologist. For Rodin, who grew up in West Philadelphia, it was an opportunity to bring stability to a university still reeling from the free-speech debates and still burdened by a troubled relationship with the surrounding community. Indeed, Rodin's efforts to rebuild the University's damaged relationship with the greater West Philadelphia community is perhaps closest to her heart. Rodin's West Philadelphia Initiative is designed to mend the seemingly irreconcilable rift that developed nearly 30 years ago. And her administration's goal of turning University City into a destination spot will leave a lasting impact on campus for decades to come.
