Rendell to teach one seminar, one lecture Rendell, a 1965 College graduate, will teach two classes in the Urban Studies Department while serving as the general chairperson of the Democratic National Committee -- a job which requires extensive travel to raise money for Democratic political candidates. One class, a small seminar on theoretical urbanism called "Can Cities Survive?" will be limited to about 20 students, said Urban Studies Co-Chairperson Elaine Simon, who met with Rendell yesterday to discuss his teaching agenda. The second class, entitled "The Science of Politics: Who Gets Elected and Why," will be capped at about 50 students, Simon said. Both classes will be held on the same day to accommodate Rendell's busy schedule. Students who want to enroll in the small seminar class will have to write an essay to apply for a place, Simon said. A group of faculty members, without Rendell's help, will review the applications. The larger class will take students on a first-come, first-serve basis with priority given to upperclassmen and Urban Studies majors, Simon said. -- Catherine Lucey
