To the Editor: I have just as good a sense of humor as the next guy and do appreciate a laugh, even when it is at my own expense. However, I felt that this illustration was tasteless and humorless. The cartoon served no other purpose than to exacerbate the stereotype of the sorority to which I belong, and it did so in a grossly violent way. A cartoon like this is as demeaning as any other form of racism, classism or sexism. This type of generalization would never be printed about groups such as African Americans, Indian Americans or Asians. Why is it then acceptable to be printed about us? I am a proud member of SDT. No, I am not from Long Island, and no, I do not sit outside Xando all day and drink vanilla lattes. But so what if I did? Who are you to judge me? I realize that certain stereotyping is inevitable, especially on a campus like Penn's where birds of a feather certainly flock together. But come on, there is no need for an intelligent weekly like 34th Street to print such nonsense. Besides, it wasn't even funny. Jocelyn Charnas College '01
