The Daily Pennsylvanian

EDITORIAL: Woo-hoo!

To City Council for approving a University-backed ordinance that will improve the state of vending in University City, while preserving the cheap and convenient food options important to the University community. To the student body for the notably high voter turnout in last month's Undergraduate Assembly and class boards elections, putting a stop to monotonous complaints of student apathy. To Managing Director of Community Housing D-L Wormley and other University officials behind the slew of recently-devised home ownership incentive programs. Besides luring faculty members and staff to live in West Philadelphia, the programs should help stabilize the neighborhoods and foster a sense of community. To Managing Director of Public Safety Tom Seamon for following through on most of the initiatives in his campus security master plan, including successfully consolidating operations into a single headquarters, thus allowing for smoother communications. To Roy Vagelos and the University Trustees for establishing the Trustees Scholars program, which will provide loan-free aid to 50 financial aid eligible students. Given the University's limited endowment and large student body, the grants are an innovative way for Penn to stay competitive with peer institutions, such as Princeton University, which revamped their financial aid programs this year. To the golf, gymnastics and wrestling teams for successful seasons that led them to win their respective Ivy League championships.
