Schools receive 1997Schools receive 1997research facilities funds The winning programs -- which were chosen by Provost Stanley Chodorow and Vice Provost for Research Ralph Amado -- will use the funds to build or renovate research facilities, as well as for the acquisition of new equipment. Most of the University's undergraduate and graduate schools applied for and received money from the fund. The School of Arts and Sciences received the most funding -- at $494,879 -- and had more programs selected for awards than any other school. The School of Medicine was granted the highest award for a single project, receiving $300,000 to develop research space in Blockley Hall. The full list of awards is published in today's Almanac. -- Ian Rosenblum Counterparts take first at national competition The Counterparts took first place in the National Championship of College A Cappella's mid-Atlantic semi-finals at Haverford College Friday. The group will advance to the competition's finals at Carnegie Hall April 26. The Counterparts will compete against other semi-finalists from across the nation, such as Stanford's Talisman A Cappella and University of Illinois' No Strings Attached. Counterparts President and College senior Ty Stiklorius said the group will probably rent buses for University students interested in attending the Carnegie Hall performance. Tickets range from $15 to $35 and are available through the Carnegie Hall box office at 212-247-7800. -- Karen Pasternack
