UMC votes to admit Penn Taiwanese Society PTS President and Wharton senior James Chen explained that his group wanted to join the UMC "to have a united voice and do campus events." The group has been pushing for admission into the UMC for more than three years, and Chen said they were "overjoyed" to join. Ten groups within the umbrella organization voted to admit the PTS, while one group abstained from voting. But some UMC members expressed concern that the PTS may overlap with the Chinese Students Association, which has been an active organization on campus since 1908. But when questioned on the differences between his group and the CSA, Chen firmly replied, "Distinct Taiwanese identity." A group of 20 students formed PTS seven years ago. -- Lindsay Faber
