New assignment judge appointed to Leroy trial Apart from naming Judge Anthony DeFino as the case's new assignment judge, "absolutely nothing" new came out of the meeting, according to attorney Lee Mandell. Mandell -- who represents suspect Albert Bandy -- said a trial judge will eventually be assigned to hear the case. As the assignment judge, DeFino will preside over the suspects' preliminary hearings, as well as depositions and other meetings between suspects and lawyers. Bandy and Christopher Jones are suspected of being accomplices to Christopher Crawford, who allegedly shot Leroy after he tried to flee a robbery at 40th and Locust streets September 25. Assistant District Attorney Jodi Lobel noted that since trial dates were not announced yesterday, they should be determined at a pretrial hearing scheduled for February 3. And despite predictions that Jones would plead guilty to the shooting, he did not do so yesterday. As a suspect, he reserves the option to do so before the trial goes to court. -- Ali Feen
