As credit manager, Tagar Olson was able to instill the fear of God in clients of the newspaper who did not pay off their debts within 30 days. He also gained the respect of his staff members and colleagues -- a tough feat. And as the youngest business manager The Daily Pennsylvanian has had in recent history, Olson plans to continue to run a tight ship in the Business Department as a whole. Olson's powerful presence is apparently felt outside of the organization as well, as friends of his were extremely hesitant to say anything about him that was even slightly off color. While it was easy to find out that he works hard, likes to play tennis and basketball and go cross country skiing, some of the more interesting information was more difficult to obtain. One friend shared, on condition of complete anonymity, that "when he's drunk, he gets really mean." Mean how? All the anonymous friend would say is that Olson is "not a womanizer." Gee, thanks for clearing that up for us. Few people seem to know that Olson is quite the Don Juan back in the place he calls home -- Traverse City, Mich. It seems that Olson has had not one, but two women back home who have been aching to do a little more than just e-mail him. "I've had an interest in Tagar forever," admitted friend Amanda Piper. Supposedly, he caught her attention during junior year debate tournaments because he was "good looking, funny? and his eyes." For the past couple of years, Olson has been playing the old "let's try 'em both" game. Freshman year, he would call one and then the other, and this past summer he would alternate lunching between the two of them. Finally, in July, Piper put an end to the madness by telling him that if he wants to play ball, then step up to bat. Accepting this challenge in a manner worthy the title of business manager, Olson and Piper closed the deal on a warm summer evening in front of a movie theater. As if in a perfect ending to a movie, Piper left the other girl with nothing but a small appliance and some batteries. There are still a few unresolved issues. Most importantly, why has Olson's bed been positioned side-by-side with his roommate's for the past four months? For the time being, what DP staffers do know is that Olson is "very sweet and would do anything for his friends." He has impressed everyone at the DP over the past year and a half with his dedication, hard work and quick learning and is sure to continue the trend as the newspaper's business manager.
