Curran Kelly is the onlyCurran Kelly is the onlysenior to say goodbye. The last home game of the season is always special, especially for seniors. For Curran Kelly, senior co-captain of the Penn field hockey team, tonight will be her last match on the Franklin Field turf. What makes Kelly's farewell to Franklin Field especially unique is that she is the only senior on the team. Tonight at 7 p.m., the Quakers will look to improve their 2-2 Ivy League record against Yale (9-6, 1-3 Ivy League). With only one game against Princeton remaining after Yale, a win against the Elis would guarantee at least a .500 final Ivy record. Penn is expecting a larger than usual crowd because it is the last home game, but also because of homecoming weekend. "We're hoping to get a crowd, and that definitely helps our play. It gives us more enthusiasm." Kelly said. Both teams match up well against each other. It looks to be a closely played game. Last year, Yale prevailed, 1-0, in New Haven, Conn. "It's going to be a battle," Penn coach Val Cloud said. "Yale ruined our run last year. We went into that game 4-0 up there and really lost a tough one. This group remembers that. We kind of owe them one." In order to get revenge, the Quakers defense will have to contain the Elis' Lindsay Hobbs. Hobbs is far and away Yale's leading scorer with over 10 goals. Another key for Penn will be capitalizing on penalty corners. "We're really going to have to execute our corners," Cloud said. "Number one, to get the corners offensively to put the pressure on, and, number two, to execute." The Quakers will have to avoid what happened Wednesday night against nationally ranked Penn State. In that match Penn held tough for the first half, but were unable to keep it up during the second half. Penn will have to be consistent and play through all 70 minutes. This will be especially critical because the score is bound to be close near the end of the game. "We need to really keep the momentum going through the whole entire game," Kelly said. "And really support each other during the whole entire game." The Yale match is also an opportunity to capitalize on the improvement of the team. In the last couple of weeks, the Quakers have improved immensely but have still lost to nationally ranked teams Maryland and Penn State. Now Penn has a chance to translate this progress into a victory. "What we need to do now is to reap the reward of improving," Cloud said. "We need a win. Then we'll really feel like we've made progress."
