Congressional District Elections

Polls indicate Borski headed toPolls indicate Borski headed toeighth consecutive House term Borski's Republican opponent, Joseph McColgan, lost by more than 20 points in 1990, his first attempt to unseat Borski. Polls show McColgan's chances for victory this time around are slim. "I would say the final numbers will be between 64 and 70 percent for Bob Borski," said Joe Michalski, Borski's campaign manager. "That would be the greatest margin of victory the congressman has ever had." Michalski characterized Borski as a "fairly moderate Democrat." Coming from a district where one-third of the citizens are over age 65, Borski supports seniors' and workers' rights, as well as the pro-life movement. McColgan, 34, is a marketing executive. He has criticized the Brady Bill and President Clinton's "don't ask, don't tell" military policy on gays. McColgan opposes U.S. intervention in Bosnia but voiced support for the welfare reform bill. -- Mark Fiore
