W. Soccer will go for first-ever victory over Brown tomorrow

Coming off Tuesday's victory over Lehigh, the Penn women's soccer team is ready to take on Brown tomorrow at 7 p.m. on the Bears' home field. With a current record of 1-2 in the Ivy League (4-6-2 overall), the Quakers hope to even up their conference record, which would be the first time they have ever defeated two Ivy opponents in one season. Brown has struggled mightily this year, going 1-8-3 overall and 0-2-2 among the Ivies. However, the Quakers are not about to take the Bears lightly. "Traditionally, they has been a power in the Ivy League, until two years ago," Penn coach Patrick Baker said. "They are a big, strong, physical team, and, at home on their short, condensed field, they can make life miserable." Two years ago, the Quakers suffered a 6-1 loss to the Bears, and, last year, they tied 1-1 in overtime. Penn has never beat Brown outright. While the Quakers used Wednesday primarily for fitness, Baker utilized yesterday's practice to focus on the skills he feels will be important against the Bears. Baker describes Brown as a "very direct" team, which he explains as one that kicks long balls forward, then waits for an opportunity to take advantage of its opponent's mistakes. But Penn's defense is prepared well in advance for the Bears' strategy. "We looked pretty good in training," Baker said. The team is confident in its ability to make Quakers history tomorrow, but is not taking anything for granted. "[Brown] is going to be ready for us," Baker said.
