Gunmen rob 7-11, four students

Two men robbed four University students at gunpoint last Friday night at 38th and Spruce streets, taking $100, University Police Captain John Richardson said. The incident occurred at 9:10 p.m. This incident was one of several robberies in the past few days, adding to a string of crimes committed since the summer. Later Friday night, Philadelphia Police arrested the suspects at Lancaster Street and Girard Avenue for holding up an Amoco ministore, Richardson added. He said the suspects have been charged with four counts of robbery and other related charges for mugging the Penn students. And at 9:20 a.m. yesterday, a man with a gun robbed the 7-11 convenience store at 42nd and Walnut streets of $80, Richardson said. The male suspect was last seen on 42nd Street and may have gotten into a vehicle near the store, he added. An employee of the store at 42nd and Walnut streets was robbed of his gold chain by a man with a knife on September 24. Robbers have struck both 7-11 stores near campus repeatedly. The store at 38th and Chestnut streets has been robbed at gunpoint five times since June. On September 18, University Police arrested a man who they believe was responsible for robbing the 38th and Chestnut 7-11 three times between June and August. Also yesterday, a person affiliated with the University reported being the the victim of a strong-arm robbery on 46th and Osage streets at 2:15 p.m., according to Richardson.
