After big weekend win, Penn travels to Lafayette

And with three games left in the season, the Quakers (4-4, 3-2 Ivy League) have a chance to set themselves apart as one of the best women's lacrosse teams in recent Penn history. After winning only one Ivy League game all of last year, the Quakers have a good shot at finishing the Ivy schedule with four wins. Penn has already won three games, with one game left on Saturday against No. 9 Yale. But before the Quakers can set their sights on the Elis, Penn will head to Easton, Pa., this afternoon to take on a mediocre Lafayette squad. For the Leopards (4-5), this will be one of their biggest games of the season. Lafayette's usual Patriot League competition is just not on the same caliber as Ivy League lacrosse. Penn is one of the best teams that Lafayette plays each year. "They're struggling, but they're capable," Penn coach Anne Sage said. "We're a really big game for them, so they'll be up." The key for Penn will be to try and continue the momentum from Saturday's big win over nationally-ranked Brown. The win over the No. 12 Bears was Penn's biggest of the season -- a lift that the Quakers hope will push them forward for the rest of the season. But Penn is not planning on doing anything special to maintain that momentum. In fact, the Quakers will go into the Lafayette game with very little specific preparation. "I'd rather go in blind," Sage said. "I don't really like to change anything. What's more important for us is to just play well. We're going to play our game." The Quakers will look to senior attacker and team captain Amy Shapiro to lead the offense. Shapiro is Penn's leading scorer with 14 goals and 11 assists, and she highlighted the victory over Brown by scoring four goals. But Shapiro will not be able to do it alone. "We're looking for consistency in the next three games," Sage said. "We want to finish with a bang, and we want to finish with wins. We'd like to be 4-2 in the Ivies and above .500 overall."
