The Penn boxers will stage exhibition bouts Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Jack Costello Boxing Club, located in Northeast Philadelphia. The club -- which opens today -- received funds from Penn Boxing Coach Ron Aurit. A $10 donation is requested at the door, with proceeds going to the Boxing Scholarship Fund, which Aurit founded. Following the exhibition, a banquet and celebration will be held at the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity house. Two Alpha Chi Rho brothers founded Penn Boxing. The Jack Costello Boxing Club is located at Longshore Avenue and Tulip Street in Tacony. Since Penn Boxing's inception in 1976, it has fluctuated between intercollegiate status and club status, according to Penn Boxing President and College senior Matt Robinson. Its current status is not resolved. Because Penn Boxing does not receive funds from the Student Activities Council, it is not officially considered a club, but rather a class, Robinson added. – Mark Fiore
