Grad student searches for lost love

Where in the University is George? University graduate Kelly Mitchell would sure like to know. Around Valentine's Day last year, Mitchell suffered a fatal blow from Cupid's arrow. A chance encounter with mystery man George took place at the romantic campus restaurant and bar, the Palladium. Last February, Mitchell and her best friend, University graduate Devora Barer, tried to relive their undergraduate years by dining at the Palladium. While lounging by the fire, a spark of conversation lit up between Mitchell and the mysterious George. "For some reason, whenever we go out together something unusual happens," Barer explained. "This time Kelly discovered an incredible connection with a nice guy." During the "moment in time," George discovered that Mitchell works at an art museum in Philadelphia. Within a week Mitchell received a telephone call at work from the tall, dark-haired man. The romantic chemistry was quickly rekindled over the phone line but was cut short when Mitchell revealed that she was already involved in a relationship. "I think it was so courageous for George to find my phone number and contact me," Mitchell said. "He didn't even know my phone number." According to Mitchell, George confided that he found her "compelling." "I was very impressed by him," she explained. "He really flattered me." Barer explained that Mitchell had felt an unusual draw to her new admirer. "Even though she had a boyfriend, I knew that they meant to meet again," Barer said. The wild hearts remained tame for close to a year, when the advent of Valentine's Day reminded Mitchell of the incident. "Since Kelly ended the relationship with her boyfriend," explained Barer. "I really encouraged her to contact George." "Sometimes you can't leave everything up to fate," she added. So with the holiday of love once again peeking around the corner, Mitchell decided to place an advertisement for her long lost admirer in the University newspaper. The advertisement in Monday's Daily Pennsylvanian read, "Looking for George (grad student, brown hair)." "We met last winter at the Palladium, and you called a week later," Mitchell wrote. "Sadly, I was unavailable at the time. Happily, I'm now available. Please call Kelly, 923-1015." The plea for love attracted much attention on campus, but so far the most sought after George has not fulfilled his end of the love connection, Mitchell said. Both Mitchell and Barer agreed that the advertisement is totally out of character for her. "I finally decided to do it because I thought it would be entertaining," Mitchell said. "I won't be devastated if I can't find him." The friends agreed that the important concept was that Mitchell took the risk. "The world would be a better place if more people would take the initiative to try to connect," Barer said. "They are perfect for each other. I really hope they get together." Even if Mitchell never talks to George again, she said she is satisfied. "I took a risk and tried to return his flattering," Mitchell said. "I hope it works, but at least I know I tried."
