After a six-week layoff, the Penn women's squash team will return to action when they travel to Lancaster, Pa., for a 5:00 p.m. match against Franklin and Marshall College. Despite the absence of team events, several Quakers (8-0) were in competition during the winter break. Jessica DiMauro, Lissa Hunsicker and Dana Lipson were three of just 16 top players at the annual Princeton Invitational, which took place the weekend of Jan. 5-7. DiMauro, the tournament favorite and No. 1 seed, did not disappoint. She rolled to the title, never surrendering more than six points in a single match. In the final, the freshman from Toronto vanquished Amherst's Harriet Ells in three straight games. "It was a bit of pressure [being the top seed]," DiMauro said. "Everyone here assumes that I'm going to win." Hunsicker, who plays in the second position for Penn, took advantage of the opportunity to play against the best. Although she fell in a tight five-game quarterfinal, the senior rebounded to win the consolation portion of the draw, good for fifth overall. "She had a great tournament," DiMauro said. "It's a shame that she lost in the quarterfinals. I would have been scared to play her." Lipson did not enjoy the success of her teammates, but nevertheless benefitted from the company of the elite competition. This evening's match against Franklin and Marshall should make an ideal return to competition for Penn. The Diplomats have a weak squad that should pose no threat to the nationally-contending Quakers.
