After win over Drexel M. Soccer will test Yale

If the Penn men's soccer team continues its season-long trend against Yale today, it will be in great shape. The Quakers' 3-1 victory over Drexel Wednesday ended a four-game losing streak. Whenever the Quakers have ended one streak this season, their new streak has always lasted at least three games. They lost the first three games of the season, went undefeated in the next four, and then lost four more games. Their Drexel victory gives them a record of 4-7-1, 1-3 Ivy League. Fortunately for the Quakers, Yale is one of the two Ivy league teams with a worse Ivy League record. The Elis have yet to win in their four contests, scoring only three goals. Overall, they have averaged one goal per game with a 3-7-2 record. In its last match, Yale was defeated by Columbia, a team Penn defeated 3-0. The Quakers do not have as much to play for against Yale as they did in previous Ivy games. With their third Ivy League loss of the season last week against Brown, the Quakers have been eliminated from contention for the championship. The best they can hope for is a second-place tie. Brown is currently 5-0 in the Ivies and is 10-0 overall with a 30-11 goal advantage. The Bears' undefeated record has earned them a No. 4 ranking in the ISAA Poll. The only schools with a chance to catch Brown are Cornell (4-1) and Princeton (3-1). Harvard, with a record of 3-2, can still hope for a tie. Currently tied for fifth, the Quakers have a realistic chance of improving their place in the standings. Two of their last three games are against the Elis and Dartmouth. The Big Green are currently tied with Penn at a 1-3 record. The Quakers' hopes for the rest of the season rest largely on the shoulders of senior co-captain Steve Marcinkiewicz. He leads the team in scoring with eight of the 19 team goals. The Quakers hope Marcinkiewicz will continue his hot scoring pace against Yale.
