Students learn the business of development and real estate, and also master useful building skills. This class also allows the University to fund community service projects and maintain control over the money so that waste and inefficiency can be avoided, while simultaneously forging a sense of community with neighborhood residents. We applaud the students enrolled in this class who should take great pride in their efforts. They are aiding West Philadelphians who otherwise would not have a house in which to live. We also commend the University because this class and others like it not only support West Philadelphia, but also provide a rare occasion where students experience "learning by doing." And it is this type of experience that often makes the most profound impact on students.
