M. Squash in action vs. Navy

In the world of competitive sports, redemption is always just around the corner. This is one of the nice things about college athletics. After two tough losses in three matches over the weekend, the Penn men's squash team will have a chance to redeem itself when it faces Navy today at 3 p.m. at Ringe Courts. The Quakers (7-3) in all probability will have a cakewalk against Navy. The Midshipmen, despite their 9-5 record, is ranked only 13th in the country. Navy has had some quality wins, but they have been blown out against upper level competition. Harvard defeated the Midshipmen 9-0, and Williams beat Navy handily as well. Penn, on the other hand, breezed past the Ephs 6-3 last weekend at Trinity. The Midshipmen's two best players are Al Sprenger and Mo Curran, both of whom have records of 8-5. Penn will counter with its lineup of Steve Scharff, Andrew Braff, Craig Rappaport and Ian Childs at the top, with Sanjay Nayar, Chris Bradeen, Carl Sibbern, Ed Vincent and Nilay Mehta finishing out the lineup. "I would think that we're the stronger team up and down the lineup," Penn coach Ned Edwards said. Despite this confidence, Edwards has been frustrated with the performance of some of his players, notably Bradeen and Nayar. He feels they have folded under pressure and are not yet competing with the confidence needed to win in crucial situations. No. 2 Braff, however, does not think this situation has to be permanent. "Some people haven't figured out yet how to win, but this is a mindset that can change overnight," said Braff, who won all three of his matches over the weekend. Redemption begins with the U.S. Naval Academy.
