The program, which was alloted the largest number of AmeriCorps positions in the state, has now surpassed its goal of 15 service scholars and has expanded the number of participants to 23. This is a testiment to the sincere concern students and this service organization have for the West Philadelphia neighborhoods. We applaud the efforts of both the Pennsylvania Service Scholars division staff members and the University students who are participating in the program. The service they provide by donating their time and effort is invaluable to the surrounding community, brings success to this national program and should give everyone involved a deep sense of accomplishment and pride. We hope these efforts will continue. We also urge the Pennsylvania Service Scholars division of AmeriCorps to work with University students to find unique opportunities to serve the community. By finding new ways to assist those in the surrounding areas, the participating students can aid Philadelphians who have not been helped before and truly expand community service in West Philadelphia.
