Tipper Gore, wife of Vice President Al Gore, attended the American Psychiatric Association Convention Monday. Gore is the Mental Health Advisor to President Bill Clinton's Task Force on National Health Reform. Gore's speech took place in the midst of many events at the APA convention, which began on Saturday and concludes today. Hundreds of symposia, paper sessions and workshops were held at the convention, which at least 16,000 people were estimated to have attended. Gore's talk was part of a round-table discussion on mental health issues. She made a late appearance to the discussion because she stopped to visit and play with children in the Guidance Center. -- Jorie Green
