Penny Loafers' new show is right on key

In celebrating the 25th anniversary of Woodstock, Penny Loafers brings a bit of the sixties here to campus in their spring a cappella show Loaferstock: Sex, Drugs and A Cappella. While the theme is set in the sixties, popular songs from the last few decades will also be performed. With a mix of creative choreography, witty skits and great singing, the show promises to be a hit. Favorites such as the Beatles' "I'm a believer" and songs by Eric Clapton are among the many numbers to be performed. The group will also give it's version of Bruce Springsteen's newest song from the movie Philadelphia, "Streets of Philadelphia." "I think we have some great new arrangements," College junior Elisa Greenwood said. "We've worked really hard and we're ready for a great show." Recently returning from a tour of the D.C. area over break, the Penny Loafers are ready to hit the stage. In their traditional style, the music will be accompanied by a little humor. "We have a few skits about Woodstock and what's happened since," said club president and College junior Greg Horowitz. "We're doing the whole first act on acid." The show will be held in the Kelly & Cohen restaurant on 38th street which is a change of scenery from the traditional auditorium show. "It's a more intimate setting," said Engineering senior Jeff Pinco. "We really want to reach out to the audience and have them be an integral part of the show." Pinco added that this semester the size of the group has grown a little and their sound has kept getting better. "We sound better than we ever have before," he said. "This group is a lot of fun to watch because they are average Penn students who are just out to have fun and sing." With lively crowd pleasing oldies and the latest in popular music, Loaferstock is sure to be a swinging success with something for everyone to enjoy. "Even when we're rehearsing hearing the harmony blend is the most exhilarating thing," said College sophomore Tina Namdar. "We're really excited and ready for this show." The show will run tonight and tomorrow night at eight p.m. in Kelly & Cohen's. Tickets are available on the walk for $5.
