It seems that the verdict on off-campus recycling is a mixed bag. While some University City residents have been provided with recycling bins courtesy of the city, others have not been so lucky and must bring their trash to on-campus sites. In these cases, environmental consciousness often is not enough to make it worth the extra trip to the recycling bin. Some, like College junior George Visvikis, do not think it is worth the effort. "I don't think [recycling] is that easy to do here," said Visvikis. "Last year we had to bring it to some strange place, and it just wasn't worth it." "We tried to do it, but it didn't seem like anyone was interested when we tried to drop our stuff off," he added. Visivikis cites the University as the guilty party, and believes it should use its influence to emphasize recycling. "I think it's Penn's responsibility to [improve the current situation] because it would be easiest for them to advertise it," he said. College junior Marci Rosenfeld agrees, calling recycling off-campus "very difficult." "We have to carry all our stuff back to campus," she said. Rosenfeld places the blame not with the University, but with the city of Philadelphia. "It tends to be more the city's problem," she said. "There's a limit to just how much the University can do. I don't want them to start owning my house." Not all off-campus dwellers find the situation so problematic. College junior Megan Moluf finds recycling easy. "A couple of months ago, [the city] delivered a bin to put out and gave us a schedule," she said. "Pick up is every other week, and includes aluminum, newspapers, and glass," she continued. "The one thing that is not recycled is plastic." Moluf said the city's effort has brought a definite improvement over last year. "Now that they have a schedule and they're picking [the recycling] up it makes it easier," said Moluf. "Last year it was more difficult because I had to bring it to campus."
