The festivities will commence in Superblock and students will parade down Locust Walk accompanied by a Mardi Gras band, fire jugglers and a mummers band, College junior Marjie Mindell, an intern for the Steinhardt program, said last night. The parade will continue to Houston Hall where Mask and Wig and Pennsylvania 6-5000 will perform. The Megillah, the scroll which contains the Book of Esther in the Old Testament, will be read. Champagne and humantashen --three cornered, fruit-filled pastries --will be served. The extravaganza will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Superblock. The Houston Hall events will commence at approximately 6 p.m. Purim commemorates the Jews' victory over the wicked vizier of Persia, as chronicled in the Book of Esther. "We want to get people to recognize Purim and celebrate it," Mindell said. "It's the happiest day in the Jewish calendar and we want as many students as possible to come out." The event is free and open to the public. -- Randi Feigenbaum
