As the world awaits Florida State quarterback Charlie Ward's coronation as the Heisman Trophy winner, the coaches of the Eastern Lightweight Football League were busy inducting players onto the first and second teams for the ELFL, as well as handing out honorable mentions. Nineteen total members of Penn's disappointing 2-4 team were selected – seven on the first team, four on the second team and eight for honorable mention. Senior tailback Tom Morrin, who led the ELFL with 723 rushing yards and finished his Penn career with 2,025 yards, earned first-team all-ELFL recognition. More importantly, though, the coaches of the ELFL selected Morrin as the winner of the Colonel Kays Award as the Outstanding Player in the ELFL. Morrin became the only player ever to win the award from a team that did not win the ELFL. "This is very exciting," Morrin said. "I tried not to think about it, but my teammates kept bringing it up. Our team's performance sort of made me think that I would not be receiving the award. But either way, I'm very excited." Others receiving first-team honors include tight end Ryan Hadrava, who was second in the league in total receptions, and center Keith Meschke, who was honored in the same fashion last season. Also, tackle Dan St. Pierre, defensive back Kris Wappaus, linebacker Greg Baker – who had four sacks, a fumble recovery and an interception returned for a touchdown – and wide receiver Mike Haraschak were members of the ELFL's first team. Penn's all-ELFL second-team members include defensive back Victor Hsu, offensive lineman Shareef Abolnaga, tackle Jeff Mensch and defensive back Brian Kagan. Linebacker John Grobe, offensive lineman Dennis McGorry, defensive back David Sullivan, fullback Todd Levine, defensive end Matt Astrom – who was on the first team last year – defensive end Stephen Barry, wideout Clinton Schmidt and Ross Berger all received honorable mention from the coaches of the ELFL.
