Spring is finally in the air and plans for Spring Fling are becoming finalized. The two bands that will share the stage with headliner Living Colour are Lords of the Underground and Bad Brains, according to Leila Graham-Willis, co-director of Spring Fling. "Lords of the Underground is an up and coming rap band that is gaining more popularity," said Graham-Willis, a Wharton senior. "Bad Brains is very hard to categorize -- they're sort of a thrash, punk, grunge group that has been around for a very long time." Fling co-director Jeffrey Anapolsky said the committee chose the bands in order to attract a diverse crowd to the show. "We tried to get three genres of music so that everybody would have something that would appeal to them," said Wharton senior Anapolsky. Some students said last night that the show may be geared toward students with certain musical tastes. "Bad Brains is kind of the same style as Living Colour so it will be cool for people who like hard core but I don't know if it's going to be a mellow show," College freshman Charles Soule said. Wharton senior Daryl Marco said that Bad Brains's music has influenced Living Colour and that he thinks the Spring Fling Committee made a good choice. "I was psyched to hear it," Marco said. Graham--Willis said that tickets for the Friday, April 16 show are now on sale at the Annenberg box office for $8.50 and at Discovery Discs for $8. Tickets will be on sale Monday through Thursday next week on Locust Walk from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at $8 a ticket as well as in the Quadrangle during Fling and at the gates of Hill Field starting at 5:30 p.m. on the day of the concert. Organizers are expecting to fill Hill Field for the concert. "We can sell a maximum of 8,000 tickets," Matt Jacobson, another Fling co-director, said. "In the past, there were 6,000 people at the Indigo Girls concert two years ago and 6,000 at the Blues Travelers last year. We're hoping for a bigger crowd this year." Anapolsky said he shares Jacobson's enthusiasm. "Everybody I've talked to is going," Anapolsky said. "We're expecting a lot of people." All three directors said that they are prepared for the weekend. "A lot of hard work has been put into Fling and it's been coming together in the past few days," Jacobson said. "We're planning to have the best Fling ever." The gates to Hill Field will open at 6:30 p.m. and the show is expected to run from 7:30 to midnight.
