Two males were arrested for possession of 60 vials of what University Police believe to be crack cocaine in the 200 block of South 40th Street yesterday afternoon, University Police said last night. University Police Sergeant Larry Salotti said that officers responded to a call that a group of youths were smoking marijuana in the 40th Street Mall -- between Walnut and Locust streets -- at around 5 p.m. After investigating, they found no marijuana, but discovered the 60 plastic vials. Salotti said University Police arrested a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old, adding that they were taken to the Philadelphia Police Administration building in Center City. The vials were taken to the narcotics division of the Philadelphia Police, where they are being tested for strength and purity, Salotti said. Results have not yet been reported. Salotti said the city will investigate the case and decide whether or not to prosecute. In an unrelated incident, a male student was robbed at gunpoint early yesterday morning in the 3300 block of Smith Walk, Salotti said. The student was approached from behind by a male who demanded his money and displayed a gun at about 1:50 a.m., according to Salotti. The student gave the robber $12 in cash and the robber fled the scene on foot heading south from Smith Walk. Salotti said the student was not injured in the attack and added that no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. In another unrelated incident, a University Police officer was injured by one of two males who were fighting yesterday afternoon at 40th and Walnut streets, University Police Sergeant Thomas Rambo said. The officer was trying to break up a fight when he was struck by the male. The officer was taken to the hospital and later released, Rambo said. The male was arrested and cited for disorderly conduct.
