The official would not say whether police have any suspects in the case or are attempting to identify a possible perpetrator. University Police Commissioner John Kuprevich said University Police assisted in the initial phase of the investigation, but have since left the investigation in the hands of the Philadelphia Police Homocide Division's detectives. Several people witnessed the shooting take place just before 10:30 p.m. when a man stepped out of a Chevrolet Blazer and began firing a semi-automatic weapon across the street at the victim's car. After being shot, the victim drove his Lincoln Mark VII up Walnut Street before collapsing at the intersection of 42nd and Walnut streets and later dying at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Kuprevich stressed that the shooting had nothing to do with that particular corner, which has long had an infamous reputation among students as a dangerous area. He added that the homicide did not appear to be drug-related or gang-related. -Scott Calvert
