Former acting Vice President for Human Resources Barry Stupine, whose temporary term expired this week, will now be responsible for coordinating special projects for Executive Vice President Marna Whittington. Stupine, who is an associate dean in the Veterinary School, will take over the central administrative post as new Human Resources Vice President Bill Holland, formerly of Charles Schwab, started at the University on Monday. Stupine said his new position will take about 15 or 20 percent of his time away from the Vet School, but added that he does not see this as a problem. "The more I know about the University in general, the more I can be of benefit at the Vet School," he said. Stupine said his appointment did not surprise him because he and Whittington had discussed its possibility for about one month before the end of his ten-month term as acting vice president. "[Now I am] helping to orient Dr. Holland to his role as vice president," Stupine said about his first project. He said it is too premature to discuss his future projects. Stupine said that his human resources position was an eye-opening and rewarding experience. "[The administration] is run very effectively, but unless you're over there, you don't see what's going on," he said. "There are very good and competent people in central administration, and schools have to know that." He also said he has formed an good and open relationship with Whittington and is amazed at the way she deals with so many issues simultaneously. Stupine said he is excited about his new position, adding that "maybe if I'm lucky I'll get a desk." Whittington, who is out of town, could not be reached for comment last night.
