We are not at the level of thinking which claims that America becomes involved with foreign countries half way around the world merely in order to fight for the never ending battle of truth, justice and the American way. If we have not surpassed these ideas and rather fully accept and preach them, we are confusing the real world with the world envisioned in the comics and movies of Superman. Saying that the Vietnam war was fought for the interests of democracy is like saying that Desert Storm was initiated for the very same reason, or is this ridiculous notion still accepted too? Perhaps Bill Clinton saw beyond the simplistic American claims, and recognized that the Vietnam war was an immoral one. Perhaps he didn't. Perhaps he was just saving his ass. Perhaps he "would have rather seen communism win than see his ass on the line." If he did see this side, then bravo Clinton. It merely means that he saw beyond the pathetic "democracy (good) versus communism (bad)" notion as many others apparently still have trouble doing. STEVE PESTKA College '95
