NOTE: This copy has been changed to correctly spell Candice Bergen's name. Orignal copy spelled her name Candace. The Senior Class Board has chosen Candice Bergen, actress and star of CBS's Murphy Brown, to speak at this year's Ivy Day ceremony. Bergen, the 1964 University homecoming queen, never graduated from the University, but according to Christine Hutcheson, secretary of the Senior Class Board and organizer of Ivy Day, she was chosen because the class she was a member of is celebrating its 25th class reunion this year. Traditionally, someone who has been involved with the University community in the past, speaks on Ivy Day. "She is a very distinctive member of that class, and we are really excited she is coming," Hutcheson said. "She has an award-winning show and has won two Emmies." And Valerie Thompson, vice-president of the Senior Class Board, said she thinks Bergen will speak about important issues, and many people will attend the ceremony. "She is a very accomplished actress," Thompson said. "Hopefully, a lot of people will come." Hutcheson found out Bergen would speak on Ivy Day during last semester's exam week. "We had tried to get her to speak in the past," Hutcheson said. "She was our number one choice." During Ivy Day ceremonies honor awards are presented to senior class members. This year's Ivy Day is Saturday, May 16. Ivy Day speakers in the past have included Alan Rachins from the television series L.A. Law and former basketball Julius Erving, better known as Dr. 'J.'
