Upset that an international business course in Wharton was only offered to MBA students, a group of Wharton students formed a committee to design similar programs for undergraduates. Their first project is a seven-week informal course on Japanese culture and business practices, followed by a trip to Japan over spring break. If everything works out, the students will consider programs focusing on other parts of the world, including the Soviet Union and Europe. Since no credit will be given for the class, the students who sign up for the trip will be doing so because of genuine interest in the subject. Better still, the Wharton students who are organizing the program have opened it to all undergraduates. Beyond that, students will be taking care of all of the logistics and deciding on the content of the classes. They have even lined up donors to help underwrite the project (although student participants will still have to pay on the order of $1000). Kudos to Wharton sophomore Velyn Sia and the rest of the members of the committee. We look forward to hearing about your trip.
